Familylawyer.by is a Belarusian law office specialising exclusively in family law. For over 10 years we have helped individuals and families navigate some of the most personal and legally complex situations they will ever face — and we do this in both Russian and English.
Who we are
We are a team of family law advocates based in Minsk, Belarus. Family law is not a side practice for us — it is the only thing we do. That focus translates directly into deeper expertise, sharper strategy, and better outcomes for our clients.
More than 80% of our new clients come through personal recommendations from people we have already helped. We do not take that lightly. It means that behind every case is a real person whose trust we have earned — and whose result we were proud of.
Our specialisation: cases with an international element
A significant part of our practice involves cross-border family matters — situations where one spouse is a foreign national, where assets are held in multiple countries, or where children and parents live on different sides of a border.
We regularly assist clients from Europe (Germany, Poland, Czech Republic and beyond), the United States, Canada, the Middle East, and Asia — including China and India. These are people who have built lives that cross borders, and whose family legal matters require a lawyer who understands not just Belarusian law, but how it intersects with foreign jurisdictions and international conventions.
The international cases we handle most often:
Divorce involving a foreign national in Belarus. When one spouse is a Belarusian citizen and the other holds foreign citizenship, the divorce process involves additional legal considerations — jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition of the decision abroad. We have handled these cases across many nationalities and know exactly what each stage requires.
Division of assets located in different countries. When a couple owns property, accounts or business interests across multiple jurisdictions, dividing them fairly — and legally — is genuinely complex. We work through these cases methodically, coordinating where necessary with legal professionals in other countries.
International parental child abduction. When a child has been taken abroad without the other parent’s consent, or retained in a foreign country after an agreed visit, time is critical. We act quickly and know the procedures under the Hague Convention, which Belarus is a party to.
Cross-border child maintenance. Enforcing or contesting maintenance obligations when one parent lives abroad raises specific procedural challenges. We guide clients through the international enforcement mechanisms available under Belarusian law and bilateral treaties.
Beyond these, we also regularly assist with marriage registration with a foreign national, recognition of marriages concluded abroad, and prenuptial agreements in cross-border situations.

For clients outside Belarus, we are fully set up to work remotely: consultations by video call, documents exchanged electronically, and representation in Belarusian courts without you needing to travel in most cases.
